Three in four Metro Vancouver employees are “delighted” or “happy” with their current job situation.
Vancouver, B.C. – The third annual “Dream Employer” poll, conducted by Insights West in partnership with Miles Employment Group and the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, reveals a list of 20 finalists that will be narrowed to the Top 10 winners at the “Dream Employer” luncheon event on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
Insights West conducted one of the largest studies of its kind in Metro Vancouver, surveying 2,312 adults in the region, to determine the answer to the question: If you could work for any company in Metro Vancouver, who would it be? In addition, the survey also uncovered insights related to job satisfaction and loyalty—looking at the key drivers of what exactly makes a “Dream Employer.”
Relative to last year, it appears that job satisfaction and loyalty are increasing. The results show that 24% of employed Metro Vancouver residents are “delighted” with their current job (+2% since last year), while 50% are “happy” (+4) and 26% are “not so happy” (-6%). There is also a significant swing in terms of the number of employed residents who say they have no plans to abandon their current job (42%, +13) while half of them (46%, -8) would only consider leaving it if the right opportunity came along. Only 12% are actively looking for a new job, a five-point drop from last year’s results.
“In our third year of conducting the survey, we have found that job satisfaction and loyalty is increasing in this tight labour market,” says Steve Mossop, President of Insights West. “With economic growth in British Columbia topping the country, housing prices at an all-time high, and job growth increasing, employees are stopping to pause, and are a bit more reticent about leaving the safety of their current job.”

Data was weighted by region, age, gender and employment status to ensure the sample matches known population proportions from Census Canada data for B.C.
